Knowledge Interchanging Program between the Fort Cities, Galle - Mannar: Chapter V

 

With the intention of preserving and conserving the historical and world heritage site of Galle fort and to raise the awareness among the public of Sri Lanka about the Galle fort, Ministry of Education with the Galle Heritage Foundation of the Ministry of Law and Order and Southern Developments organized the Fifth Chapter of Knowledge Interchanging Program between the Fort Cities on 09, 10 & 11th days of June 2017.

30 students and 05 teachers were selected from 5 schools from Mannar District and 30 students and 05 teachers from 05 schools from Galle District were accompanied this 5th sequel program. In addition to them, Mr S.A Prabhakaran, The Director of Education, Madhu Zone and the other educational officials participated in this workshop.

On June 10, 2017, the inauguration ceremony was held at the Management Training Centre of Wackwella with the participation of many special quests. Northern Provincial Director of Education, Director of Education for Madhu Zone, Southern Provincial Deputy Director of Education, the Chairman of Galle Heritage Foundation, the Director of Galle Heritage Foundation and the Assistant Director of Archaeology Department were among the guest for this function.

Mrs. Wasanthi Alahakon, the Assistant Director of Archaeology Department gave a speech on the caption of World Heritage and Archaeological sites. Mr. Tharanga Liyanarachchi of Galle Heritage Foundation delivered a discourse about Galle Fort.  Thereafter, sightseeing arrangements were made to Hapugala Water Treatment Plant and to a Tea Factory. In the evening, an art competition was held among the participated children.

On June 11, the final day of the program, all participants were involved in site visits to the famous Matara Star Fort, Koggala Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Museum and Mount Rumassala. During the visits, introductory speeches and guidance were given about each place. Thereafter, a cultural function was arranged on the day. The children of both districts shown their talents in the show and prizes and certificates were gifted to the winners. Mr. Parakrama Dahanayake, the former director of Galle Heritage Foundation, the current Director and other officials of Galle Heritage Foundation, Director of Education of Madhu Zone, School Principals and parents participated in the event.
